ROBERTA DI CAMERINO, LA RIVOLUZIONE DEL COLORE (The Revolution of Color) that is, the “total look” of clothes, but above all of accessories, through which the great Venetian stylist Giuliana Coen (1920) – married name Camerino, and in art Roberta (after the film that included the song “Smoke gets in your eyes”, which always stirred deep feelings for her) – is recognized for having effected a genuine revolution in the 1950s: the celebrated “revolution of colour”.

Via a few clever inventions – above all the use of velvet and unusual colour combinations for women’s handbags, as well as fun and quirky shapes like the “Bagonghi” travelling case (much loved by Princess Grace of Monaco) – the “Roberta style” brought a breath of fresh air and novelty into the world of fashion. In the 1960s she took an interest in other types of women’s accessories – foulards, umbrellas, suitcases – eventually discovering a new field of experimentation in day and evening wear, for which Giuliana invented the “trompe-l’oeil”, in which the lapels, buttons, pleats and belts were not real, but simply printed on the jersey.

The exhibition arrives at the Fortuny Museum after great success at Museo Revoltella in Trieste (from 8 October to 12 December 2010) and presents – in this evocative setting that highlights the interplay between the colours of the clothes and the paintings on display, in a perfect harmony of intent between her “world” and that of Mariano Fortuny – sixty handbags, dating from the early 50s until the 1970s, a score of dresses, as well as umbrellas and foulards.

The exhibition is made possible thanks to the contributions by Maison Roberta di Camerino, Gruppo Sixty, and the Provincia di Venezia.

For the exhibition “Spring at Palazzo Fortuny”, Roberta di Camerino gives the exclusive opportunity to our visitors purchase her products at a special prize from the mueum bookshop
